Saefern's Dog Park at the Stables

Saefern Dog Park Background

Saefern’s Dog Park was created in 2015 at the location of the Stables and is for the use of SSYC members, their guests and their dogs. Please note that SSYC will not assume any responsibility for injuries to dogs, owners/handlers, or guests; and dogs should be on leash/under control outside the fenced area. Dogs must be healthy, licensed and collared with identification.

In general, our facility is covered in wood chips, is enclosed by an open weave fence, and has a “beginner set” of hurdles and other equipment to support some agility training for our dogs. This equipment, made of light weight, inexpensive PVC pipe, is adjustable for dogs of all sizes. At present, we have hurdles, a ramp, and a hoop. Additionally, there always seems to be a bucket of balls available, and if the tennis ball has been chewed beyond any useful life, it is magically replaced.

Dog Park Rules

Saefern's Dog Park is only for the use of Saefern Saddle & Yacht Club Members. It has rules that are similar to public dog parks. In addition to following the rules below, please keep the park clean and neat after each use.

  • Dogs in heat should not use the facility.
  • Owner/handler must stay with any dog using this facility.
  • Owner/handler will pick up after their dogs and properly dispose of all waste.
  • Owner/handler assumes all responsibility for young puppies and other dogs, which might be vulnerable to hard running and rough play in this facility.
  • Children under the age of 6 years old should not use this facility unless accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.
  • There is no fresh water at the Dog Park, so please bring your own for you and your dog!

Saefern Dog Park Community Spirit

The Saefern Dog Park was proposed as a new amenity for the Saefern Saddle & Yacht Club in 2015 by members of SSYC who walked their dogs along the various trails. The stable area had paddocks that were not being used by horses, and an idea was hatched that we could turn one of the paddocks into an enclosed dog walk area.

The proposal was presented to the community as a volunteer project at a minimal expense. Approval was given and several people were instrumental in creating the park. Our dogs give thanks to Carol & Eldon Miller as the primary drivers of the park, along with helpers throughout the community.

The pictures of dogs include Cody Bell jumping the hurdle, and Bindi McNaught guarding the entrance. Eldon Miller shows off the agility equipment. Dante and Cleo Miller (below) wonder if they have to use the agility equipment.
